Welcome to Masorti Germany

We invite you into the Masorti spaces, a vibrant meeting point between Jewish past and future, between tradition and renewal. This is where we live, celebrate, learn and pray. Together, we search for answers from Jewish tradition to meet contemporary challenges. Jewish life and Jewish learning – Torah and Halacha – shape our everyday life and our celebrations in preschools, schools, and synagogues. Our seven Masorti principles form the foundation of our educational program, contributing to the diversity of Jewish life in Germany – accessible, joyful, and with space for personal discovery. We look forward to your questions, ideas and participation.

The Masorti Preschools

Are you looking for a preschool in Berlin where Judaism is part of daily life? A place where Jewish identity is experienced in a way that celebrates Jewish diversity, fosters dialogue, and encourages respect for others? With Hebrew-German and English-German groups, a beautiful garden, and our own kitchen serving vegetarian-pescetarian organic meals? A place where children – and parents – form friendships that last a lifetime? Then you’ve come to the right place!

Jewish International School – Masorti Elementary School

Here, today’s education is interwoven with Jewish values and tradition. Are you looking for an elementary school (grades 1–6) in Berlin where Judaism is experienced as inclusive, egalitarian, and open for questions? A school that values different cultural backgrounds, where the Jewish calendar structures the school year, and Judaism is part of daily life? A school where learning is based on the City of Berlin curriculum and Hebrew is part of both classroom learning and school routines? Then you have come to the right place!

Participatory, egalitarian, a place for children, we are part of the Jewish Community of Berlin and affiliated with the Conservative/Masorti Movement. Wherever you are on your own Jewish journey, we are a welcoming place to pray, celebrate, and learn.  We are always glad to welcome both familiar and new faces to join us. Please let us know if you have any special needs so that we can accommodate you.

The Seven Core Principles of Masorti

Masorti means engaging Jewish tradition and 21st-century life in a constant, meaningful dialogue. Halachah (Jewish law) is the framework within which Jewish life has developed over the centuries – and continues to evolve while staying true to itself.

Masorti Worldwide

What is today the Masorti movement – known as Conservative Judaism in the United States – began in 1854, when Rabbi Zacharias Frankel founded the Juedisch-Theologisches Seminar, the Jewish Theological Seminary in Breslau, designating his approach as “positive-historical” Judaism. Even though it began in Germany, Masorti is still relatively new and growing in German-speaking countries after the Shoah. Through our relationships with our international partners, we bring impulses and resources from the global Masorti movement to Germany, adapting them to our own regional needs, and thus building the local movement.

The Three-Religions Nursery School Project

At Masorti, dialogue with other religions is an essential part of our commitment to jointly creating a better world. Our aim is knowing about, respecting, and learning from other religions – in a spirit of equal coexistence cooperation and mutual understanding, not to blur religious boundaries or merging traditions. The Three-Religions Nursery School House was long planned together with our partners. Due to budget cuts by the Berlin Senate at the end of 2024, the nursery school construction project was canceled for the time being, however Masorti Germany continues its work with its partners.
